Attachment-Focused EMDR
Attachment-Focused EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing-AF-EMDR) is a powerful and effective therapy modality for the treatment of trauma. AF-EMDR is a client-centered approach to healing that aids clients in repairing development deficits in order to build healthy attachment styles. This is done though the combination of Resource Tapping and reprocessing using bi-lateral stimulation to express and heal unresolved emotion stored in the body from previous traumatic events along with talk therapy to help integrate reprocessing sessions through the safety of the therapeutic alliance.
Common issues include anxiety, phobias, depression, relationship issues, codependency and creative blocks among many others. Relational traumas can include parental misattunement, Narcissistic/Codependant family dynamic, parental substance abuse, physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect, medical traumas, significant early losses or living in a family where relational traumas have been passed down from generation to generation. The effects of trauma that is unprocessed is such that the energy remains stored in the body and neural circuitry of the brain, which can greatly impact how one acts and engages in relationships. Likely a person will continue to experience life in such a way where the trauma is re-triggered leaving one to be more susceptible to additional trauma until it is healed.
I have completed EMDRIA Approved EMDR Training Level 1-3 through the Parnell Institute, which specializes in Attachment-Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR). The Parnell EMDR Institute was founded by internationally recognized psychologist, author of 5 books and EMDR Trainer/Consultant Laurel Parnell, Ph.D. for the purpose of training clinicians worldwide in AF-EMDR.
